Laughter is Good Medicine Comedy Show

Mar 31, 2008

At Seattle Based Mainstage Comedy and Music Club

Seattle, WA – The Mainstage Comedy and Music Club will host its first “Laughter is Good Medicine” on Saturday, April 19th, a quarterly benefit show for Operation Ward 57. Deborah Semer, a Seattle resident, founded Operation Ward 57 in 2007 to support the amputee/orthopedics ward at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington DC where her husband works as a nurse.

Mainstage club owner Julie Mains stated, “Some of Seattle’s best comedians are coming together for a night of hilarity and fun(d)raising. We are proud to do our part for America’s severley wounded vets by supporting this landmark effort. We find laughter truly is the best medicine.” Seattle laughmasters Tony Daniel, Joe Vespanziani and Dean Olson will perform two shows at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. PST. Twenty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the cause.

A talent search is also underway to find active duty or retired military stand-up comedians who would like to participate in the quarterly shows. Those interested in auditioning should contact the Mainstage Club directly 206-550-2112. “I am constantly amazed by the sense of humor of some of these soldiers and those who care for them. One patient thought of a T-shirt idea that should say, “half-off now”….it’s unbelievable.” said, organization founder, Semer.

A giant 10 foot flag created by supporter Rick Clements will be laid out before and after the show for attendees to sign. The flag will travel around to various events to gather signatures from artists and citizens in support of the wounded, and then will be given to the men and women at Ward 57.

TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets for the event are $20 and available at the door, through Ticketmaster or the club directly at 206-217-3700 or their website www.mainstagecomedy.com. Twently percent of the proceeds will be donated to the cause. The event will also be broadcast at 8:00 p.m. EST on www.synclive.com. The next benefit shows will be in August.
