Veterans not exempt from Prosthetics Tax

Mar 28, 2010

The Senate defeated three separate amendments offered to the health-care reconciliation bill on Wednesday night that would have abolished or limited the impact of a new tax on medical devices—including prosthetics, such as artificial limbs—that was enacted in the new health-care law President Barack Obama signed on Tuesday.

A 2.3% tax on medical devices starting in 2013 is currently going to effect our wounded warrior veterans requiring the use of prosthetics. This tax was put into place to help fund the new heath care bill in a goal to raise $20 billion over the next ten years.

With the defeat of these amendments it appears the tax will go into effect on our troops returning home injured from the conflicts overseas.
