Loss of Alex Knapp
This morning the Operation Ward 57 was sadden to hear of the loss of one of their own.
On October 2nd, 2010, Alex Knapp passed away. The Michigan Sled Dogs went to FSU to play a demo game when SPC Alex Knapp suffered from an apparent heart attack. SPC Alex Knapp was only 24 years old.
SPC Alex Knapp was known to the Operation Ward 57 family due to being a former patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. On his final mission in Iraq before going on leave, Alex Knapp lost both legs in an IED blast on March 14th, 2008. Even after being injured, SPC Alex Knapp bravely refused medical attention until his own fellow soldiers who were also injured by the IED blast were treated first.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of SPC Alex Knapp. You will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.
I was sadden by your loss this morning. I do not know whether to hit the wall or to sit here and cry. You were an inspiration to us all. I am thankful for the little time that our lives crossed paths and was able to spent time with you.

SSG (RET) Scott Cameron, Don’t hit the wall just sit and cry. Your only going to hurt yourself and I’m sure SPC. Knapp wouldn’t want you to be hurting anymore then you are now. I’m so sorry for your loss and thank you to his family and I sorry for what has happened…Barb
Alex, You are still here, beating in the strong hearts on every American. Thomas
