On Sunday February 26, 2012 the United States Army stated they had identified the remains of the last missing U.S. Service Member unaccounted for in Iraq.

On October 23, 2006, Staff Sergeant Ahmed K. Al-taie of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was kidnapped after he left the Green Zone in Baghdad. The military states he was serving as a translator for the United States military. He was attempting to visit family members when he was abducted.

In February 2008 a 10 second video of a man claimed by a militant Shiite website to be Altaie appeared on the internet.

The remains of Staff Sergeant Al-taie were acquired through an amnesty exchange program through the Iraqi government.
