Flag Day and Army Day Message 2011

Jun 14, 2011

Today marks the dual anniversary of two special occasions for every citizen of the United States.

On this day in 1777, the Continental Congress in Philadelphia adopted the Stars and Stripes as the National Flag. Most nations have such a day to honor the symbolism of where they live.

TODAY IS AMERICA’S FLAG DAY.

“This flag, which we honor and under which we serve is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation.” – Woodrow Wilson, flag day 1917

“Remember, everyday is flag day for our men and women in uniform”

Also, on this day in 1775 the Continental Army, forerunner of the United States Army, was created. The Army was created due to a need for professional soldiery in the American Revolutionary war to confront the infamous Red Coated soldiers of the British Army.

HOOAH BIRTHDAY ARMY!

Through the years the uniforms and missions may have changed but the spirit and pride of the men and women who serve holds steadfast. We thank the millions of veterans who filled those ranks and take a moment to reflect upon their sacrifices.

To SPC Brown, SGT Miller, SSG Havens and the thousands of other men and women in uniform, current and former, this flag is for you.
