Staff Sergeant Oliver Hughes celebrates first “Alive Day”

Operation Ward 57 would like to say “HAPPY ALIVE DAY!” to Staff Sergeant Oliver Hughes.

Oliver Hughes, 36, of Colorado lost his left leg during his second tour in Afghanistan on April 13, 2011. An IED Exploded on Hughes’ side of the truck making the floorboards meet the dash boards. The explosion occurred four months into his second tour in Afghanistan when Hughes was 19 days short of heading back stateside to attend the Army’s Physician Assistant Training program. Hughes went from being a care provider to being a patient.
